More Life in the City Center - For a Sustainable Urban Development Strategy

With the project "Kulturschaufenster" a vacant store space will be opened up in Dresden's city center from 26.8. - 21.10.2021 as part of the Dresden Summer of Culture 2021 and brought back to life by creative professionals. Dresdeners and tourists can experience the diversity and creative potential of the city, its designers and their stories. At the same time, the showcase project gives cultural and creative professionals the chance to present their perspectives and their works and to show the wealth of ideas and the vitality of local culture.

Multi-Faceted Program of Events by Dresden Artists and Creatives

79 projects creative actors from Dresden, selected by a jury, provide a diverse exhibition and event program that shows the many facets of Dresden's cultural and creative industries. 43 exhibitors from the fields of visual arts, design, media art and literature as well as 36 performances by artists from the fields of dance, theater, media performance, reading and concert will be presented at the Centrum Galerie Dresden over the next eight weeks. The program is complemented by talks, guided tours, special exhibitions and workshops from other sectors of Dresden's cultural and creative industries.

We want to invite Dresdeners and visitors to the city to marvel and discover what Dresden's creative scene has to offer. At the same time, we want to give its actors an opportunity to present themselves and increase their visibility - but also to network with each other - after such a difficult pandemic. In addition, we advocate the payment of fair exhibition and performance fees.
Lydia Göbel (Project Manager Kulturschaufenster, CEO WGD).

Satellites and other Venues of the Creative Scene

The freely accessible culture showcase in the Centrum Galerie offers the opportunity to show creative works and artistic works as well as small concerts and performances in public space. Exhibitors as well as artists will also find a platform online on the "Wir gestalten Dresden" website. From September 1, a second showcase will open at Hauptstraße 44, where artist collectives will work and perform. An interactive map points out further venues of the creative scene in Dresden. Visitors are thus invited to explore the second cultural showcase at Hauptstraße 44, the city center and locations of Dresden's culture and creative industries. The team around the project "Kulturschaufenster" is in constant exchange with other actors of the Dresden cultural and creative scene and thus ensures a constant expansion of the program to be able to represent as many sub-sectors of the local cultural and creative industries.

The Kulturschaufenster is a project by WGD and will be realized as part of the Summer of Culture 2021 "Dresden Open Air". The Kulturschaufenster is supported by the Beauftrage der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM) with funds from NEUSTART KULTUR as well as the state capital Dresden with funds from the Corona-Bewältigungsfonds. In addition, it is supported by funding from the Saxony State Directorate through the program "Participation of People with Disabilities" from Saxon tax funds and from "So geht sächsisch".

Kulturschaufenster

The pandemic acted like a fire accelerator on the structural change of inner cities. With the project 'Kulturschaufenster' we want to strengthen the inner city again, to preserve the multifunctionality of the cities in their core through art and culture and at the same time give the creative professionals of this city an opportunity to present themselves. The Kulturschaufenster is a test balloon for the unfolding of a sustainable urban development strategy in which art and the creative industries play a leading role.
